ABOUT THE LIBRARY
The Saraighat College Library is an ideal knowledge hub with all required modern facilities. The Library is well located in the first floor of a proposed 3 storied building and has been maintain a cool reading environment with well furnished reading room. The Library has above 16500 text and reference books. It has also different types of dictionary, encyclopaedia, annual books and guide books for different types of competitive exams. Since 2011 the library uses the SOUL software version 2.0 for the automation of the library. The integrated Library Management systems(ILMS) consist such types of modules Accessioning, Cataloguing, Classification, Circulation, OPAC, Administration are used in our library automation. The users use the OPAC to search and also known about the status of the books (whether it is issued or returned). The library has different section like reference, periodical, circulation and reprography service for satisfaction of the users. It avails e-resources from the membership under N-LIST programme of INFLIBNET consortia. The N-LIST provides access to 6000+ E-journals and more than 31+ lakhs E-books. The “D space” software is also in operation for digitalizing the library holdings such as exam question papers, Institutional repository and others. The library offers various services to its users like orientation programme students, Wi-Fi access, book bank facilities for B.P.L students, comfortable table-chair for physically disabled students nearby stack room ,Newspaper clipping etc. The library committee has decided to give best reader award to create reading habit and encouraging among the students. The whole library has under CCTV surveillance.

The Saraighat College Library always looks forward to establish itself as a centre of excellence & knowledge hub within the college in particular and the society as a whole.

OBJECTIVES:
 To develop more collection of reading materials useful for various courses.

LIBRARY RULES:
 Library opens on all working days & timing is 9.00AM- 4PM.

 Membership/Identity Card will be issued to every member.
 Personal books & other belongings are prohibited inside the library & all members are requested to keep their belongings at the property counter at their own risk.
 Silence is strictly observed inside the library.
 Spitting & smoking are strictly prohibited.
 It is mandatory for all visitors to write their Name, Class/Semester, Roll No and Department in the Gate Register.
 Student members are entitled to borrow books for 15 days as per follows

B.A (General)students :02 books
H.S students :02 books
 Faculty members are allowed to borrow maximum 10 books at a time.
 Members who are repeatedly fail to return the books on due time will lose the privilege of membership of the library.
Any person who is entitled to use the library, if found guilty of mutilating or disfiguring by writing in the margin underlying sentences
 making pages will have to replace such damaged or defaced books, otherwise he/she is liable to pay the cost price of the book.
 Reader’s tickets are not transferable.
 Reference books, Rare Books, Periodicals are not generally issued.
LIBRARY COMMITTEE:
There is a Library committee for smooth functioning of the Library. The committee is constituted annually. The main objective of the Library committee to decide & adopt the policies to govern the management & various programme of the library, to prepare the annual budget, rules & regulation. The committee is sole responsible for looking after all matters related to the library. After the Library Committee meeting the resolutions are recorded in the proceeding books. The Library has generated Digital Database of the books using Integrated Library Management Software SOUL 2.0 version, developed by the INFLIBNET Centre, an autonomous body of the UGC. Computerization is in process.
DIGITAL LIBRARY:
A digital library also called online library, on internet library, a digital repository r digital collection is an online database of digital objects that can include text, still image, audio, video, digital documents or a library accessible through the internet. The central library uses the Digital library management software DSPACE.
Digital Library section provides the all issued of college magazine which are published till now. Question papers and Souvenir of Saraighat College( silver jubilee celebration) are available in our digital section. The Departmental magazine “Anbesan” which are Hand Written of the Education Department and “Spandan” of the Assamese department is also recorded.“Nath-jugi-Tattwa” written by RajmohanNath the special old book is also available. Library profile, Book list of Anthropology, Assamese, Economics, Education, English, Geography, History, Philosophy etc. Advertisement of the vacant post of our college is also recorded in the digital section.
DETAILS RECORDS ON IT:
Hardware refers to the physical and visible components of the system such as a monitor, CPU, Keyboard and mouse. The company of the monitor is “ACER”. On The other hand, software refers to a set of instructions which enable the hardware to perform a specific set of tasks.

LIBRARY AUTOMATION:
Library Automation refers to the use of the computer to automate the typical procedures of libraries such as cataloguing and circulation. In the process of library automation, a library makes the use of computers and others technologies to support its system and services. The process of library automation is to provide the right information, to right person, in right manner in right time. For the library automation we use the library management software LE. For the development of the library automation we basically use the following section:
• Catalogue
• Circulation
• Administration
• OPAC
The central Library provides LAN connection with all the departments for avail OPAC facilities. As a result all the faculties have known that the books are available or not. The library automation helps the user issue/ return smoothly from the circulation counter. Library automation provides the quick service in all types of queries for the users.
LIBRARY ACTIVITIES:
1. Use of Technology: The students are trained to practice N-LIST or subscribe the e-resources from this Digital Library. We also taught them how to use the OPAC system for searching their books and it is available or not in the library. This library also provides the facilities of SOUL 2.0 software, D-SPACE, Scanned question paper and magazines.
2. Best Reader Award: To encourage the reading habit amongst the students we always give a bundle of books as a best reader award.
3. Orientation Programme: The Central Library of the Saraighat college is organised an Orientation Programme for every Departments of the college. In this programme we have discussed about the rules and regulation about the library. We have also discussed with our students to create reading habit and encouraged to use the E-Resources for their academic support. All the programmes are recorded in the file.
4. Motivational Talk: In the beginning of the academic year we have always tried to encourage them for visit to the library when they are free from their classes. Sometimes we are arranged the group discussion in different topics and guiding them for all over development.
5. Information Display: We are always hanging the different types of news and informative articles in our library “Notice board”. Library related information is hanging in our “Display Board” inside the library.
6. Newspaper Display: Daily Newspaper are always clipping in front of the entry in the library.
7. Extension Service: As a librarian I play an active role to visit the adopted school and village with our “Extension Cell” for different types of activities.
8. Celebration of Librarian’s Day: On 12th August it is celebrated in every year in the Library .
9.Subject Expert: As a subject expert from University nominee I have attended the “D.P.C”(Departmental Promotion Committee)in Rangia College, S.B.M.S College, I have attended subject expert in the selection Board of the vacant post of the Librarian in Sipajhar College, Chaygaon College, College of Education Boko.
LIBRARY SERVICES:
According to Ranganathan, right contact means contact between the right reader and right book to the right time and in the right personal way.
 Reference Service: Library staff helps the students as per their requirement.
 Circulation Service: Open searching of the books by the readers.
 Current Awareness Service: Notification on the Notice Board.
 Information Service: All types of information are provided to the user for their requirement.
 E-resource Service: Internet facilities are available to access their information in the library.
 Reprography Service: Xerox (on demand)
 Books on special demand may be given for a short period to the selected students by the Librarian.
 Book Bank facilities for economically backward students.
ACQUISITION POLICY:
Following points are followed while acquisition of library books and periodicals:
•Recommendation for books and periodicals from the concerned departments are called for in the beginning of the every academic year
•The same is put for approval before the Library Committee
•After getting the approval, the same is checked with the existing library collection, to avoid the duplication, after that order of books is given by the departments as per budget
•While giving the order, purchase rules are followed
